Professional Qualifications, Accreditation and on-going learning

BACP Accreditation

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), registered as Member 55033. This accreditation provides a quality standard for qualified counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK, signifying high levels of expertise, experience, and ethical practice; similar to a kite mark. It serves as a benchmark for competence, often required by employers like the NHS, confirming that a practitioner has completed extensive training and supervised practice. BACP accreditation requires:

  • Completion of accredited counselling training
  • Minimum 450 hours of supervised practice
  • Ongoing professional development and clinical supervision
  • Adherence to BACP's Ethical Framework

BACP accreditation ensures that you are working with a practitioner who has demonstrated competence, maintains ethical standards, and is committed to ongoing professional development.

Previous Experience

Counselling and Bereavement Lead at a hospice, overseeing the full service including management, client assessments, case allocations, trainee counsellor supervision, and volunteer coordination. Developed and maintained policies and procedures to ensure high-quality, compassionate care. I provided counselling to people at the end of life and their families.

Counselling Qualifications Professional In this role, I advanced my expertise in UK counselling education by approving centre and qualification applications, coordinating nationwide assessments and moderation processes, and planning/facilitating standardisation training events for tutors. Liaised closely with training centres to ensure high-quality, ethical delivery of CPCAB qualifications (Levels 2–6), while reviewing and revising qualification structures/content to align with evolving counselling practices, research, and regulatory standards like BACP. This role honed my skills in quality assurance, curriculum development, tutor support, and influencing professional training standards across the sector.

Counselling Tutor As a Counselling Tutor I delivered counselling training to aspiring counsellors, focusing on core skills like active listening, empathy, ethical practice, and therapeutic models such as person-centred or psychodynamic approaches. I facilitated interactive sessions, assessed student progress through assignments and practical placements, and provided supervision to build clinical competence. This was aligned with CPCAB and BACP standards and involved mentoring trainees on real-world application, and evaluate learning outcomes to ensure students met professional benchmarks. Duties included marking portfolios, leading group supervision, and staying current with research to inform teaching.

Counselling Assessor and Moderator I assessed and moderated counselling qualifications from levels 2 to 6. This role requires advanced expertise in counselling theory, practice, and pedagogy to ensure consistent, ethical standards across introductory skills (Level 2), intermediate studies (Level 3), practitioner training (Level 4+), and supervisory levels (Level 6). The role required deep knowledge of Regulated Qualifications Frameworks, moderation techniques, portfolio evaluation, and internal/external verification to uphold BACP-aligned ethical standards.

Training, Groups and Workshops

I used to run a well being group and I ran a series of weekly groups through a local autistic society, where I ran weekly discussion groups with neurodivergent adults and we would discuss topics like: healthy relationships, our sensory world, coping with Christmas. I have also provided training to a group of autistic medical doctors where we explored communication and boundaries.  I provided support to staff at a care home during the pandemic who had lost a lot of their residents.  I was part of the team standardising tutors for CPCAB and I am an experienced teacher/tutor, trainer and group facilitator.
