I’m Emma, a neurodivergent, BACP-accredited psychotherapist, EMDR practitioner and clinical supervisor with over 14 years’ experience. I offer thoughtful, specialist therapy that adapts to how you communicate, process emotions and experience the world.
My passion is in supporting neurodivergent - Autistic, ADHD, AuDHD and other neurodivergent identities, highly sensitive adults and families, and those experiencing grief, loss, or life transitions. I offer a warm, collaborative, and authentic approach. I hold a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy Practice (research-based, focused on understanding how to best work with neurodivergent people), I am EMDR trained, and I am an Accredited Member of the BACP.
I would describe the way I work as eclectic and this is a psychotherapy approach in which the therapist does not stick to a single “school” of therapy, but instead selects and combines techniques from several different models to suit the individual client and the specific issues they bring, drawing on a range of modalities, to include: Humanistic approaches such as Transactional Analysis, Compassion‑Focused Therapy, Person‑Centred, Solution‑Focussed Brief Therapy, Existential, and Gestalt. I may also incorporate a Psychodynamic approach and I also offer EMDR which is a trauma therapy. My work is also informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I tend to work visually and creatively and I include psychoeducation in my work.
I began my counselling training in 2003 and have since worked in charities, within hospice care as the Counselling and Bereavement Lead; running the counselling service and supporting families and people at the end of life. I have also worked in education, first as a lecturer, and then for a leading awarding body, helping to uphold standards in counselling and psychotherapy. I have assessed and moderated counselling qualifications from levels 2 to 6. I now work in private practice as a Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor. I absolutely love my work and I see it as an honour and a privilege. Something I am immensely passionate about.
I am a clinical supervisor and clinical supervision is a mandatory, formal, and regular arrangement where counsellors and psychotherapists review their client work with an experienced supervisor. It ensures ethical, safe, and effective practice by supporting practitioner well-being, enhancing skills, and maintaining professional standards. I have had the pleasure of supporting several of my supervisees to successfully achieve their BACP accreditation. I am also a mentor to counsellors developing a niche, newly qualified, or wanting support setting up their private practice.
My style is down-to-earth and I draw on creative, visual, and psychoeducational approaches to meet each person's unique needs. Above all, I aim to provide a safe, accepting space where you can explore what matters most to you.
In my spare time, I like to balance curiosity with a good dose of nature. I love being out in nature and taking photos along the way, usually of plants, skies, or moments that catch my attention. I’m also drawn to art and history and I like to visit museums, galleries and exhibitions when I can. I have a broader interest in different cultures, music, movies and reading.
To help regulate my own nervous system, I enjoy attending sound baths, which I find both grounding and restorative. I value time that allows me to slow down, notice things more closely, and reconnect, whether that’s outdoors, through creative spaces, or simply pausing long enough to take it all in.
I ensure my practice is sustainable, professional and transparent. I minimise my carbon footprint by working online, by using recycled materials, and buying green energy. I work to professional standards set out by my professional body, BACP and I am transparent about my fees.
