Receiving a diagnosis of autism, ADHD or AuDHD later in life can be both clarifying and overwhelming. For many people, it brings a sense of recognition, finally having language for lifelong experiences that never quite made sense. At the same time, it can open up complex emotions around identity, missed support, and the impact of years spent navigating the world without understanding why things felt harder.
Late diagnosis support offers a space to process, make sense of your experiences, and begin relating to yourself in a more compassionate and informed way.
There is no single way to respond to a diagnosis. You might feel relief, grief, anger, validation or all of these at once.
Common experiences include:
These responses are valid. A diagnosis is not just information, it can be a significant emotional and psychological shift.
After a late diagnosis, many people begin to notice patterns that were previously confusing. You might recognise burnout cycles, masking, sensory sensitivities, or differences in how you process information and emotions.
Therapy can support you in:
This is not about “reinventing” yourself—it’s about uncovering what has always been there, often beneath years of coping strategies.
Late diagnosis support is not about fixing you. It’s about helping you integrate this new understanding into your life in a way that feels steady and meaningful.
In our work together, we may focus on:
The pace is led by you. There is no expectation to “figure everything out” quickly.
My approach is grounded in neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed practice. Your diagnosis is not viewed as a problem to solve, but as a framework for understanding yourself more clearly.
Together, we work towards:
A late diagnosis can be the beginning of a different relationship with yourself, one that is less about pushing through, and more about listening, understanding, and responding to what you actually need.
